Watson Health

After the close of the market today, IBM announced a new partnership with Apple, Johnson & Johnson, and Medtronic called Watson Health. IBM plans on using their Watson technology to use data collected from HealthKit and ResearchKit and utilizing it’s experience in big data and data analytics to deliver personalized healthcare on a large scale. The Watson Health group will provide information to various other companies including Johnson & Johnson and Medtronic. Apple will work to integrate Watson-based apps into HealthKit and ResearchKit for these purposes. In the same announcement IBM noted that they are acquiring two start-ups: Explorys, a Cleveland Clinic spin-off with data from 50 million patients used to spot patterns in diseases, treatments and outcomes; and Phytel, a developer of patient management software designed to reduce hospital readmission rates.
